Officially released in 2021, Wordle’s provides its players with a new 5-letter word to solve each day. Based on the full list of known Wordle answers, the game is anticipated to come to an end in late 2027, unless new solution words are added or the format of the game undergoes a change. 

How many possible Wordle words are there?

  • There are currently 2,309 possible solution words in Wordle.
  • Originally, there were 2,315 possible solution words in Wordle in 2021.
  • After the game was purchased by The New York Times in 2022, 6 words were removed from the game’s solutions for being either offensive, outdated or using non-US spelling.
  • However, in total there is also a list of just under 13,000 5-letter words that users may enter in order to identify usable letters for the solution (even including removed words).

  • There are 167 more words beginning with S than the second most-common starting letter. 
  • The second-most common starting letter for a Wordle answer is C, which begins 8.58% of the game’s answers.
  • The third-most common starting letter for a Wordle answer is B, which begins 7.49% of the game’s answers.

As with starting letters, successfully selecting ending letters can also provide players with a greatly reduced number of solutions to choose from. Players can maximize their chance of getting the last tile correct by opting for the most commonly occurring end letters.

  • The most common ending letter for a Wordle answer is E, which ends 18.28% of the game’s answers.
  • There are 58 more words ending with E than the second most-common end letter. 
  • The second-most common ending letter for a Wordle answer is Y, which ends 15.76% of the game’s levels.
