When playing a game of Scrabble or Words With Friends, each player is given 7 tiles with letters on them to place on their rack. They have to use these letters to make a word, along with whatever tiles are on the board already.

Getting a 7-letter word in Scrabble can be pretty rare because you are probably using almost all of your tiles. However, on the plus side, there are 34,370 7-letter words that are playable in games like Scrabble and Words With Friends. So it should not be too much trouble to come up with some. As usual, the best place to start is with the letter S. There are more than 4,000 7-letter words that start with the letter S. To put that into perspective, there is no other letter at the beginning of even 3,000+ 7-letter words. The next best is the letter C. There are 2,873 7-letter words that start with the letter C (e.g. CONTACT, COMPANY, CURRENT, CONTROL and CONTENT).

At the other end of the spectrum, you will not have much luck getting a 7-letter word with the letter X. Although there are 26 7-letter words starting with X in the dictionary, they are generally not commonly used words like XENOPUS or XIPHOID that don’t exactly roll off the tongue. You know if someone pulls one of these out then you are up against a serious player.
